Why Me?
These two words have been echoing in our minds since the day we were born; the only difference between all of us is how we have been asking the “Why Me” question.
Why did God make me?
The purpose of creation seems to have been hidden all this time from men and women. Many think that they were born out of the love of their parents. Others heard that they were born unexpectedly, as it was not the plan of their parents; thus, they are deeply hurt and think that they don’t matter but are born to fade into oblivion and obscurity.
The question of why me is entrenched in men’s quest and desire to know their identity, so when one asks why me, they are really questioning their identity. So, in short, when one says, Why me they are saying, Who am I to experience what I am experiencing?
Who am I?
In Genesis 1:26, God says
Let us make man in our own image after our own likeness.
Who am I? I am God’s; rather, you are God’s child (son or daughter). This means every time you stare in the mirror, the person you see is God’s own child. God is your father, and you are his child; Whether you admit it or not, whether you know it or not, you are his beloved child.
It’s important that we understand that men will only realize their true identity in God. Only in God is the question of why me adequately answered.
Why Me? Purpose
Why me is the same as why did he create me? This shows that when we asked the question, we were searching for the reason and purpose of our existence. There is a growing arrogance within human beings—the arrogance that they can learn and find out their purpose independently of God. The search for purpose without the creator will lead to suffering and frustration. This means that if you want to know your purpose, then be dependent upon God, for in him the purpose will be revealed.
Why Me? Dominion
Genesis 1:26
... and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
After God had created man, He spoke of him, saying that he rules everything in their environment. (NB! man was not given instruction to rule other man but to have dominion over that which is in the environment and the environment itself.)
This means the environment was made to make man’s life better and more enjoyable in every way. Inside the environment lie the wealth and riches of man, and that is the reason God tells man that they should rule over their environment.
Why Me? Promises
Whenever one asks the question, Why me they are doing so from an understanding and a standpoint of expectation. Inside the DNA of men is that knowledge deep within that expects good to come out of every situation. That is the reason no one wishes evil for themselves!
The expectation of good stems from promises of goodness inside our DNA. Some people expect something good from the universe, others from God, and there are those who expect good things from people.
The expectation of good was planted by our creator when he created us, and after he created us, he made good and precious promises to us, his children, so that we know what awaits us as we solely, crazily, and relentlessly depend upon him.
God created man in his own image so that they would know, claim, and fulfil the very things he promised them inside of him. It is important that we, the creation, set out to find whatever promises our creator made for us so that we can claim them.
So next time you have the Why Me question, keep in mind that you are a beloved child of God and that He loved and still loves you passionately. Also remember that you have God’s identity, as He is in Heaven, so you are here on earth (1 John 4:17). Lastly, know that you are made for the particular purpose of ruling his creation; not only that but claiming the great promises he made for you centuries ago.
