Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]. Genesis 1:26
The most beautiful thing that happened to the first man was how he was created, in the fashion and sameness of his creator. The detail we see in Adam was not a mistake or a thing God did unconsciously or unintentionally. Still, it was all done for the greater purpose of communion and connection between God and Adam. God didn’t want a machine or thing just to run errands in the garden; he wanted a being like him with whom he could come and converse daily.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27
God instilled in us a profound, inherent longing to connect with Him from the start. He is more than simply our Creator; He is also our Father, and He, like any loving father, craves an intimate relationship with His children. This relationship is based on communication—speaking to and hearing from Him.
Connecting to God as Our Father:
The Bible has numerous references to God as our Father. This title is more than simply a formality; it conveys a vital reality about our identity and connection with Him. Just as earthly dads nurture, guide, and interact with their children, our Heavenly Father wants to do the same with us. He is constantly present, ready to hear our pleas and speak to our hearts.
Connecting through Speaking and Hearing:
We were uniquely created with the ability to communicate with God. Prayer is our way of communicating with Him and sharing our thoughts, fears, praises, and desires. However, communication requires both parties to participate. God also talks to us, and we have the power to hear His voice.
How Can We Hear God?
- Through Scripture: The Bible is God’s written word. Regular Bible reading and meditation help us hear His voice and grasp His plan for our lives.
2. Through Prayer: When we pray, we should also take time to listen. Sometimes God speaks to us in a whisper, guiding and calming us.
3. Through the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit lives within us, educating, reminding, and communicating with us. Being receptive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings is essential for hearing God.
4. Circumstances: God frequently utilizes our personal circumstances to speak to us. We can identify God’s voice by focusing on our experiences and seeking His perspective.
5. God can speak through the godly counsel of other believers. As part of a Christian community, we can hear God’s voice through the advice and support of others.
Benefits of Hearing God:
- God’s voice leads our courses, allowing us to make good judgments and avoid traps (Proverbs 3:5–6).
2. Comfort: Hearing God speak offers calm and consolation during difficult times (Psalm 23:4).
3. Strength: God’s words enable us to face problems and carry out His goals (Isaiah 40:31).
4. Hearing God strengthens our relationship with Him, promoting trust and closeness (James 4:8).
Connecting with God is not about reaching out to a distant deity, but about recognizing and embracing His constant presence within and around us.
We are constantly connecting to God!
