Living in respect for God
Reverential fear is walking in honour to God, it is the kind of fear where one walks in holiness and righteousness. With this kind of fear Joseph refused to lie with Potiphar’s wife as he knew that it was a sin to God and to his master Potiphar. (Genesis 39:9)
From Joseph’s story its very clear that if a person lives in respect of God, they will be able to respect other people. Selfishness is a sure sign that one does not live in respect of God as they do not give consideration to the feelings of others. That is why John wrote:
you can’t say you love God and hate your brother (1 John 4:20)
Living in respect for God means having a life where our thoughts and words don’t have a trace of insult against God. This is where one chooses not to joke or say things that puts in question their respect for God. (Deuteronomy 5:11) God is a Father and all honour is due to him from us!
